Eliza McCartney is one of the best pole vaulters in the world.
In fact, she’s one of the greatest pole vaulters of all time, taking home bronze from the Rio Olympics and an agonizingly close 2018 personal best of 5m.
But her career has stalled over the past four years with an unfortunate series of injuries that have resulted in an inspiring recovery that will hopefully see her return to her best form.
In this episode, we talk about how she went to school with Lorde when she accidentally stumbled onto a nude beach, why her coach made her tell a joke every week, her rise to the top of pole vaulting, and the whirlwind of fame that this was followed by her Olympic bronze.
An injury prevented McCartney from competing at this year’s Commonwealth Games and in the second half of the episode we’ll go into her ‘rebuild’ pretty deeply and you’ll get a really clear picture of what a tough few years it’s been for they were.
