As the first global event after the outbreak of the pandemic, Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to be a platform of exceptional value to reflect on the role of collaboration as a key factor in strengthening the resilience of our societies and our ability to address global challenges. through innovation and connectivity.
The World’s Fair will also confirm the UAE’s strong role as a commercial, financial and logistics center for the wider MENASA region (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) and the success of its development model based on diversification, attractiveness and projection Future, in a year marking the Federation’s Golden Jubilee.
For Italy, participation in Expo 2020 Dubai will be the most important promotional project in the last six years, not just for the government investment in the construction and operation of an amazing pavilion (in line with its role as “owner” after the success Expo Milan in 2015), but also for the great commitment of all major public and private entities to bring the best Italian skills of creation, innovation and networking to Dubai to help improve the recovery and resilience of our societies.
“Beauty connects people” is the Italian motto of Expo 2020 Dubai. But beauty as a classic term encompasses not only what is aesthetically pleasing, but also what is right and useful for people, which today also means inclusive and sustainable. This is the beauty that permeates the unique Italian landscape and architecture, but also Italian manufacturing and innovation in the most advanced sectors (from renewable energies to waste management, water treatment, aerospace, sustainable mobility, life sciences, artificial intelligence and agricultural technology ). By showcasing the beauty of Italian technology, the Italian Pavilion will highlight Italy’s contribution to global efforts to improve the lives of our people, protect our planet and increase our prosperity in an inclusive and sustainable way, in line with Italy’s priorities as it is now G20 presidency.
In doing so, Italy will also build on its deep and far-reaching relationships with the UAE in everything from security to trade, from science to culture. Indeed, Italy and the UAE have a strategic dialogue on the main international and regional dossiers at foreign ministerial level; have dynamic trade exchanges (in 2020 the UAE was the first market for Italian exports in the MENA region, while Italy was the UAE’s second supplier in the EU and among the top 10 worldwide); increasingly collaborate in research and technology (around 70 Italian scientists now work in the universities and research centers of the UAE); and share a strong commitment to developing cultural dialogue (as confirmed by the establishment of the first Italian cultural institute at the GCC in Abu Dhabi).
I am confident that Expo 2020 Dubai will be a great opportunity to further advance our bilateral relationship through a variety of initiatives, projects, meetings and experiences that will involve our companies, our institutions, our research centers and our societies. and that will outlast the world exhibition.
The Embassy, together with the Consulate General in Dubai, the office of the Italian Trade Commission, SACE and the Italian Cultural Institute and in close collaboration with the office of the Italian Commissioner General for Expo, endeavors to carry out all these activities and their follow-ups.
