Bob Evans Farms Foods, Inc. is recalling Italian pork sausage products due to possible foreign material contamination


WASHINGTON, Oct. 21, 2022 — Bob Evans Farms Foods, Inc., a branch in Xenia, Ohio, is recalling about 7,560 pounds of Italian pork sausage products that may be contaminated with foreign materials, particularly thin blue rubber, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said today known to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The raw Italian pork sausages were made on September 8, 2022. The following products are subject to the recall [view labels]:

  • 1 pound. Chub with “Bob Evans Italian Sausage” with batch code XEN3663466 and a “USE/FRZ BY” date of 11/26/22 with a timestamp between 14:43 and 15:25.

The products affected by the recall bear the company number “EST. 6785” within the USDA mark. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The issue was discovered after the company notified FSIS that it had received consumer complaints reporting thin pieces of blue rubber in the product.

There are no confirmed reports of side effects from consuming these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should see a doctor.

FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ fridges or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be discarded or returned to the point of sale.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness reviews to verify that recalling companies are notifying their recall actions Customers will be informed of the recall and that steps will be taken to ensure the product is no longer available to consumers.
