Maggie Wicks dreams of everything that begins with P: pizza, pasta and pinot noir.
When Aucklanders are finally free to enjoy their city – and beyond – where will they go? For a city break close by, Waiheke – the island paradise with world-leading food and wine – is always a good choice.
In the middle of Waiheke’s busiest (relatively natural) area, Oneroa, Fenice is a lovely Italian spot. In winter, the open fire ensures a warm welcome; As the seasons change, Fenice offers a true taste of the Mediterranean with al fresco dining on the veranda.
In the evening the menu consists of authentic pasta and pizza as well as risotto, arancini and other Italian-inspired dishes made from fresh, local products. The game meatballs in particular are the “kiss of the cook”. For dessert, of course, tiramisu and an Italian bread-and-butter pudding. “Delizioso.” While the food has its influence from thousands of miles away, the wine list offers selections right on the island – and why should you travel further in that regard?
Fenice is currently running a competition – a chance to win a lunch or dinner for you and your lockdown whnau – including the famous tiramisu for dessert. To enter, all you have to do is tag @fenicerestaurantwaiheke on Instagram with your best lockdown pizza creation by October 10th. Better yet, heat up the pizza oven …
