Turin, October 13th 2022. IVECO BUS, a brand of Iveco Group NV (MI: IVG), has won the coveted Sustainable Bus of the Year award in the Intercity category for its CROSSWAY Low Entry HYBRID Natural Gas, biomethane-compatible bus. This is the third such title won by IVECO BUS, following the 2018 award for its low entry version of the CROSSWAY and the 2020 title for the natural gas powered CROSSWAY.
The jury for the award consists of seven representatives from the most important industry publications in Europe. When awarding the title, the judges evaluated factors such as safety, comfort, noise level, recyclability of the components and the manufacturer’s commitment to sustainability, as well as the ability to build a positive image of the vehicle in the public eye.
The CROSSWAY Low Entry HYBRID natural gas bus is an alternative for regions, counties and cities that want to offer transport solutions that are fully compatible with energy transition projects. It brings up to 15% fuel savings compared to the diesel variant and a reduction in CO2 -Emissions of up to 82% with renewable fuels.
In addition, after signing a letter of intent last July, IVECO BUS today launches its collaboration with transit tech company Via, initially offering IVECO BUS customers in Italy the opportunity to request bespoke software for on-transport solutions through its dealer network from early 2023.
The two partners will continue to explore the possibility of developing easy-to-implement solutions for public transport authorities and operators – from on-demand transport to autonomous public transport powered by alternative energies. Possibilities for autonomous on-demand shuttles are also being examined.
“This third award reaffirms IVECO BUS’ position as European leader in the intercity segment and confirms the Iveco Group’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Together with the first result of the partnership with Via, they demonstrate that IVECO BUS is consistently driving the evolution from a traditional company to a future strongly shaped by the trends that are revolutionizing passenger transport, such as the energy transition and new business models,” said Domenico Nucera, President Bus Business Unit, Iveco Group.
