“I haven’t sat down in a very long time,” Alexandra O’Neill said Tuesday night from the rooftop terrace at L’Avenue at Saks. The Markarian designer had shown off her Resort 2023 collection earlier in the day and finally had relaxation in sight as the celebratory dinner began. She was joined by Saks Chief Merchandising Officer Tracy Margolies, as well as VIP guests including Finnegan Biden (the President’s 22-year-old granddaughter), Abby Phillips, Maye Musk, Veronica Webb, Nicky Hilton and more.
O’Neill began working with Saks about a year ago and has gushed about her experience with the retailer.
“They support their designers so much. They’re really great at nurturing young talent, if I may call myself young,” she said.
Speaking of which, she’ll soon be 36 and plans to celebrate with Savannah Engel, her publicist, as well as other friends with a birthday dinner in London. From there she goes on vacation to the Italian island of Ponza.
“You have to take a ferry to get there – it’s a sleepy little town with only locals, it was a little treasure. They only speak Italian there — it’s going to really push my college Italian,” she said. “It’s going to be really low key.”
Already working on the new collection, the brand is busier than ever with bridal wear as 2022 is being billed as the busiest wedding season in history — “which we can confirm,” O’Neill said.
“Honestly, that’s what kept us in business during COVID-19,” she said of bridal fashion. “People were still getting married, they just did it in different ways.”
