The Niagara Region of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has released the winter program schedule. All programs are free and open to the public. Registration is strongly recommended as the programs are usually full.

The schedule is as follows:

√ Saturday, January 1st, 10am to 12pm, First Day Big Tree Hike at Knox Farm State Park. Start the New Year off with an invigorating hike through Knox Farm and visit the park’s largest trees. For more information and registration, call 716-549-1050.

√ Saturday, January 1st, 9:30 am-11pm, First Day Hike at Beaver Island State Park. Enjoy the fresh air and the winter landscape while walking through the park. For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Saturday, January 1st, 2-4pm, First Day Hike at Fort Niagara State Park. Tour the Officer’s Club to see the murals and museum exhibits, followed by a stroll to the War of 1812 Cemetery, Lighthouse, and Old Fort Niagara from the parking lot. √ Sunday, January 2, 9:30 am-11 am, Forest Therapy with Tina at Beaver Island State Park. Awaken your senses, be in the present, slow down and reconnect with nature. The walk ends with tea under the trees (tea is not provided). For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Sunday, January 2nd, 10-11am, “Winter Wonderland” at Artpark State Park. Take a stroll where it all started, soak up the fresh air and wintry scenery, and soak up the natural and man-made beauty. For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Tuesday, January 11th, 6-7pm, “Trivia Tuesday” at DeVeaux Woods State Park. Come by and play Nature Bingo. Find clues to fill out the fields and fight for small prizes. For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Tuesday, February 8th, 6-7pm, “Trivia Tuesday” at DeVeaux Woods State Park. Come by and play Nature Bingo. Find the clues to fill out the fields and fight for small prizes. For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Saturday, February 12th, 10-11: 30am, Bird Walk Along the River at Beaver Island State Park. Enjoy a leisurely winter stroll through the park and along the Niagara River. See what winter birds are waiting for you. For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Saturday, February 12, 10-11am, “Birds on the Niagara: Buffalo Harbor” at Buffalo Harbor State Park. Celebrate winter birds as you stroll along the park promenade and look for waterfowl, seagulls, and (hopefully) snowy owls. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring spotting scopes and binoculars if possible. Call 716-549-1050 for information and registration.

√ Monday, February 14th, 6-7.30pm, Valentine’s Day Candle Lantern Walk at DeVeaux Woods State Park. Happy Valentines Day! Make a lantern and discover the park at night while walking through the ancient forests. For more information and registration, call 716-282-5154.

√ Saturday, February 26th, 10am to 12pm, A River of Birds at Beaver Island State Park. In winter, the Niagara River is home to a diverse range of bird life. Up to 19 species of seagulls and 40 species of water birds can be observed. Visit lookout points along the East River Trail to take in this seasonal abundance.
