NYC 2022-2023 Public Schools Calendar: These are the key dates you need to know

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Summer vacation is upon us as public school students across New York City will celebrate the last day of the school year at the end of the month.

But it’s never too early to start planning for the next school year.

Thursday, September 8th is the first full day of school for Staten Island public school students of the 2022-2023 school year.

The city’s Department of Education (DOE) academic calendar provides for approximately two dozen days off between the first and last day of classes on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

The calendar allows for the following holidays: the Jewish holidays, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur; and week-long breaks for Winter Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break, which include Christmas, Passover, Good Friday, and Easter.

The school calendar also includes time off for Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous Peoples Day (Columbus Day), Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Memorial Day.

The city will also grant students a day off on Election Day, November 8, 2022. On “snow days” or days when school buildings are closed due to an emergency, all students and families should plan to participate in distance learning. according to DOE.

Appointments for parents’ days for elementary, middle and high school are also stored in the calendar.

Sep 2022

  • September 8 – First day of school for students
  • September 15 – Evening parent-teacher conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K centers
  • September 22 – Evening parent-teacher conferences for middle schools and District 75 schools
  • 26-27 Sept – Schools closed for Rosh Hashanah

October 2022

  • Oct 5 – Schools closed for Yom Kippur
  • Oct 10 – Schools are closed for Italian Heritage/Indigenous People Day

November 2022

  • Nov. 3 — Afternoon and Evening Parent Reacher Conferences for Elementary Schools; Students from these schools were released three hours early
  • Nov 8 – School buildings closed for Election Day; Full remote classroom day for all students
  • Nov. 9 — Afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences for middle schools and District 75 schools; Students from these schools were released three hours early
  • Nov. 11 – Schools closed for Veterans Day
  • Nov. 17 — Evening parent-teacher conferences for high school, K-12 and 6-12 schools
  • Nov. 18 — Afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences for High School, K-12 and 6-12 Schools; Students from these schools were released three hours early
  • 24-25 Nov – Schools are closed for Thanksgiving

December 2022

  • December 24 – Winter break begins

January 2023

  • January 3 – Classes resume after winter break
  • Jan. 16 – Schools are closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • January 24-27 – The Regents Exams are held
  • 30 January – Professional Development Day for schools in grades 9-12 and 6-12, students from these schools do not participate
  • January 31 – The spring semester begins

February 2023

  • February 1 — Schools closed for Lunar New Year
  • 20-24 February – Schools closed for winter break (including Presidents Day).
  • February 27 – Classes resume after winter break

March 2023

  • March 9 – Afternoon and Evening Parent-Teacher Conferences for Elementary Schools and Pre-K Centers; Students from these schools were released three hours early
  • March 16 – Afternoon and evening parent-teacher conferences for middle schools and D75 schools
  • March 23 — Evening parent-teacher conferences for high school, K-12 and 6-12 schools
  • March 24 — Afternoon Parent-Teacher Conferences for High School, K-12 and 6-12 Schools; Students from these schools were released three hours early

April 2023

  • April 6-14 – Schools closed for spring break (including Good Friday, Passover and Easter)
  • April 17 – Classes resume after spring break
  • April 21 – Schools closed for Eid Al-Fitr
  • April 26-28 – Administration of Mathematics Exams for Grades 3-8

May 2023

  • May 4 – Evening parent-teacher conferences for elementary schools and Pre-K centers
  • May 11 — Evening parent-teacher conferences for middle schools and D75 schools
  • May 18 — Evening parent-teacher conferences for high school, K-12 and 6-12 schools
  • May 29 – Schools closed for Memorial Day

June 2023

  • June 8 – Schools closed for anniversary day, Chancellor Conference Day for Human Resource Development, students not attending
  • 14-23 June – Administration of Regents Exams (except 19 June when schools are closed)
  • June 19 – Schools are closed on June 16
  • June 27 – Last day of classes
