NEW YORK, March 21, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — “Taste the Difference: Quality Wines from the Heart of Europe“, a campaign co-financed by the European Union and implemented by the Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) and the Spanish state-owned company PRODECA, Promotora d’ Exportacions Catalanes, is pleased to announce the “Exploring the Native Grapes of the Spanish region of Catalonia” exclusive seminar , which is held in NYC at City Winery Tuesday, March 22ndfrom 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The mission of the Taste the Difference campaign is to raise awareness of European PDOs (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) by highlighting some of Europe’s leading wine producing regions Spain and Italy. Aiming to increase the perceived value of wines of protected origin and national heritage while ensuring an image of European excellence and tradition, the seminar will include an overview and tasting of wines from five Spanish g. U. from the Catalonia region: Empordà, Conca de Barberà, Priorat, Montsant and Cava.
Located in the extreme north-east of the Catalonia region, the DO Empordà is bordered by the Pyrenees to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east and flat plains to the south, and is surrounded by natural parks in an area of high natural value. With a vineyard area of 2,000 hectares and a production of around 60,000 hl of wine per year, Empordà is an advocate of sustainability.
The DO Conca de Barberà is located in the northern part of the Catalan province of Tarragona with vineyards at altitudes between 350 and 900 meters above sea level. The vineyard area currently covers 9390 hectares and produces an average of 150,000 hl of wine per year.
DOQ Priorat is a small region of southwestern Catalonia with a long winemaking tradition dating back to the 12th Priorat counts 5176 hectares of vineyards, 383 of which were planted before 1945.
