TORONTO — Shawn Mendes says he’s taking a three-week break from his world tour to focus on his mental health.
The musician, who grew up in Pickering, Ontario, posted a statement on his Instagram account Friday night that a number of US appointments were being postponed so he could “heal and take care of himself.”
Mendes wrote that he’s always had a hard time being away from friends and family, and after a few years off the road, he felt he was ready to “dip back in.”
But he says the decision was “premature” and that he has “reached a breaking point” so after consulting his team and healthcare professionals he has decided to take a break.
The pop singer kicked off his Wonder World Tour June 27 in Portland, Oregon, the first of more than 80 planned tour dates that will wind their way through North America into the fall before heading to Europe in 2023.
Mendes will next perform in his hometown of Toronto on July 31.
