New York is blessed with rooftops galore for drinks and food amidst breathtaking views. Given a convenient location, even the second floor will work with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop, as in this sprawling new bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn. In September, the building below will be transformed into a year-round restaurant; At the moment there is a rooftop bar with one the second is coming soon. (A third will be on the ground floor.) It has a tropical influence with lots of greenery, weathered wood, green tiles, checkerboard stone floors, and blue walls. Drinks and food are self-service and can be ordered from the bar, with choices like fried mashed potatoes with aioli and brava sauce, shrimp cocktail, fish and chips, and a broccoli raven hero. Drinks, all $12, include a Tropicale with Meyer lemon vodka, passion fruit liqueur, lime and guava juice; and the Proposal, made with pineapple rum, lime, and simple syrup. Vantage Point Hospitality owns and operates Vacations with Annie and Andy Shaner, restaurant veterans who live in the neighborhood.

This intimate new spot in the West Village distils one family’s dining history. Decades ago, Ferdinando Scarpati came to New York from the island of Ponza west of Naples and opened Ferdi’s in the Bronx. His son Guiseppe was a chef at the Rainbow Room, and now Ferninando’s grandson, Fernando Scarpati, is opening this intimate space with his sister, Aida Scarpati. The modern Italian menu is extensive and the restaurant’s name pays homage to her grandfather.

The Delicious Hospitality Group, which Pasquale Jones (and other restaurants) runs, has opened a Sicilian wine bar next door. As with Pasquale Jones, chef Ryan Hardy is in charge of preparing fresh pasta dishes like culurgiones, porcini dumplings, along with chef Christopher Roderick; smoked eggplant platter; and Sicilian sfincione pizza.
